| "A way of thinking that seeks a solution to an
intractable problem through unorthodox methods or elements that would normally be ignored
by logical thinking."
Dr Edward de Bono divides thinking into two methods. He calls one
"vertical thinking", which uses the processes of logic - the traditional,
historic way. He calls the other "lateral thinking". which involves disrupting
the apparent thinking sequence and arriving at the solution from another angle.
Lateral Thinking tools challenges the self-organising system of the
brain to take a leap out of its normal sequence.
Creative Thinking is not a talent, it is a skill that can be learnt. It
empowers people by adding strength to their natural abilities, which improves creativity
and inovation - leading to greater productivity and, if appropriate, greater profits.
Creativity and innovation are the only 'engines' that will drive lasting success in an
ever changing world. In hind-sight all lateral thinking solutions are logical.
When you face fast-changing trends, fierce competition, and the need to
work miracles despite tight budgets - you need lateral thinking.
The techniques were first published in 1968 and the basis for lateral
thinking was published in 1969 in Dr de Bono's book 'Mechanism of Mind'. The techniques
are simple, powerful and proven.
Lateral Thinking is:
 |
a fast, effective way to help organisations, teams, and
individuals solve problems by what seem to be illogical means - in hindsight all solutions
are logical. |
 |
a process and willingness to look at things in a different
way. |
 |
an established type of thinking that complements analytical
and critical thinking. |
 |
a system to create new products, processes and services. |
 |
A term that can be inter-changed with 'creativity'. |
You will Learn "How to":
 |
attack problems with more and better ideas to get immediate
results. |
 |
increae you number of new and practical ideas dramatically. |
 |
Challenge current thinking - constructively. |
 |
build on the concept behind one idea to build more ideas |
 |
find alternative solutions |
 |
turn problems into opportunities |
 |
think creatively and make innovation happen. |
Cavendish Training and Peter de Bono can deliver and reveal all.
The course can be given in two days but Peter de Bono prefers a three
day course to ensure adequate practice of the numerous techniques, harvesting and the
treatment of ideas. |
