EDWARD DE BONO'S MESSAGES - 17th January 2000

King of Australia - Geraldton

On February 11th I go to Geraldton to be KING for a week. This arose from my book "Why I want to be King of Australia" which was very well received in a country with a marvellous sense of humour. Geraldton has taken the initiative of inviting me to be "King of Geraldton". So I have accepted and am looking forward to all the paraphenalia: outriders, balls, handmaidens, court jesters etc. There is not enough fun in politics. What you invest in pomp you get back as theatre.

Maybe the bold example of Geraldton will be taken up by other smallish towns (there is room for 51 more to have a king's week). In that way I would become de-facto king of Australia without any referendum, constitutional change or other such complications. It would be the revenge of the smaller towns on the bigger ones!

If you find your way to Geraldton I would be happy to meet up with you and have you take part in the fun. I am not able to arrange practical things like accomodation - contact Geraldton for those.

I shall be introducing a new hand sign / signal / greeting / salute during my king's week.

Come and have fun.
