MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 18th February 2002 ..paying lip service.. Suddenly the UK is told that the transport system may be the worst in Europe. Suddenly patients are sent to France for treatment because the NHS waiting lists are too long. There are other aspects which suddenly turn out to be not as good as previously thought. Somehow it is much easier for things to get steadily worse, without being noticed, than for things to get steadily better. Throwing money at a problem is not the only answer even if the problem has been caused by a lack of investment. There is always the need for new thinking and a need to design a way forward. Such thinking is rarely forthcoming because relatively few people actually believe in the value of creative thinking even when they pay a great deal of lip service to the concept.
