I was recently in South Africa. The University of Pretoria which is the largest university in Africa has now set up a 'de Bono Institute'. This Institute will be involved in preparing a 'thinking curriculum' for students. It is also my wish that a one year course in thinking be prepared that could be used across Africa as a substitute for going to university. This course would be directed towards 'operacy' and 'action thinking' not just philosophical reflections. Nicola Tyler who is very competent will be looking after the Institute.
There is also a de Bono Institute at the University of Malta. Any other university in the world which wishes to set up a 'de Bono Institute' should contact me in order to take the matter further. (edwdebono@msn.com subject:university)
The University of Pretoria has also made me the very first 'Professor of Thinking' in the world. What is important is the designation of 'thinking' as such. It is not Cognitive Psychology - but 'thinking'. This is, I believe, a world first and an important one because it highlights the existence of 'thinking' as a recognised subject. About time too!!
