MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 28th April 2003

CERTAINTY

There are many views of 'CERTAINTY'.

  1. CERTAINTY is like the piers of a bridge. Without solid and dependable piers there is no reliable bridge.

  2. CERTAINTY is like a 'dead-end' street. Once you have reached certainty there is no point in thinking further. There follows dogma, arrogance and other forms of closure.

  3. CERTAINTY is like a 'stop' sign on a road. You stop, pause, look around and then decide where to go.
You are invited to suggest your own metaphors - even if you have not read my latest book!
