MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 1st September 2003

Munich Airport!

As I travel a great deal readers of these messages will be used to my comments on airports etc. So here is the latest.

Travelling from Ljubljana to Malta required a change at Munich from Adia airlines to Malta Airways. The transfer lounge at Munich airport (terminal 1) had no transfer desk and no information desk. To transfer you were supposed to go out through passport control and then re-enter. If you did not have a Schengen visa - as one of my travel companions did not - what were you supposed to do? In addition the airline business lounge was the other side of passport control. If there is a logic to this strange arrangement, someone could possibly tell me about it. In the USA you do now need a visa even for transfer. But the USA is not Europe where there are very many more transfer points.
