I intend to lay out the "mission" clarification next week when I have rather more time.
I am travelling rather busily through Australia. There is a lot of media attention to Pauline Hanson and the success of her One Nation Party in the Queensland elections (something like 20 per cent voted for the party). Many people consider her views rather simplistic and even racist - especially with regard to Asians. At the same time she may offer a mouthpiece to the disaffected, to rural communities that are disadvantaged by economic rationalism, to those fed up with the other parties etc etc.
One approach wouold be to create a new governemtn post of "Minister of Concern". This ministry would provide a focal point and mouthpiece for disatisfaction by different groups.: "There is concern about....". This would be a novel idea for governemnt because protest would now be part of the process not just a role for the opposition.
With regard the Millenium Conference I would urge a focus on really basic issues rather than peripheral arguments.
