EDWARD DE BONO'S MESSAGES - 8th May 2000
"Atlantic Corridor"
Buffalo, NY, was once one of the greatest cities
in the USA. The Erie Canal made it a major port which channeled grain and other
produce from the mid-west. Engineering developed in and around the city. Buffalo
has magnificent architecture as a record to its glorious past. The opening of
the St Lawrence waterway removed the benefits of the Erie Canal. Other factors
also contributed to economic change.
Today Buffalo is a thriving city. The citizens I
met are highly motivated to restore Buffalo to its former glory. The
"Atlantic Corridor" links Buffalo to Ireland. It was through this
organisation (and Tom Farrell) that I was invited to Buffalo. I met business
leaders and talked to the mayor and his commissioners. I talked to educators. I
talked to the council in Amherst.
There is a lot of energy in the city. In
September I shall be back in Buffalo to talk to 5,000 children and other groups.
The intention is to make Buffalo a city in which everyone thinks constructively.
I was impressed by the spirit shown by the
citizens of Buffalo.
