EDWARD DE BONO'S MESSAGE - 18th September 2000The Olympics Last Friday I was in Sydney at the stadium watching the Olympic opening ceremony. It was magnificent both in concept and in execution. I believe that the Olympic 'chief' (Juan Antonio Samaranch) said it was the best opening of his presidency. There were two friends of mine involved. Tina Arena who gave a powerful singing performance and Shane Gould. As a thirteen year old Shane held every woman's swimming record between 100 metres and 1500 metres. Shane was one of the runners who carried the torch around the stadium. I am told that when she received the torch she gave my peace sign (wings of a dove - described here previously). I could not see this from the stadium distance but apparently it was quite clear on television. This would have been seen by 3.5 billion viewers around the world. Shane uses some of my thinking methods in the courses she runs for young athletes. She is a very dedicated person. Edward de Bono nmt |
