EDWARD DE BONO'S MESSAGE - 25th September 2000

Constructive Thinking

While in Sydney I helped launch the International Youth Parliament which involved 319 youngsters from 160 countries. I made a plea that they should think constructively. Too often youngsters just identify  an enemy or 'the bad guys' and then do not have to do any more thinking.

A Campaign for Constructive Thinking is being set up in South Africa. This will involve its own website which will suggest organisation frames for constructive effort6. The country is not going to make much progress if everyone sits around and blames apartheid - no matter how justified this blame may be.

Creative thinking is an input to constructive thinking where creativity is not just self-indulgence.

Reflection, judgement, analysis and critical thinking are simply not enough to take things forward.
