MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 13th August 2001 ..highly motivated people.. When I was in New Zealand I talked to 7,400 youngsters ranging from six years old to university students - with some adults as well. All this was organised by Vicki Buck with her usual boundless energy. When teachers complain about a class size of 40, I ask them to try 7,400. Of course, that is not fair because the theatre effect of a large audience is rather special and not the same as a classroom.
Graeme Allan in South Island, NZ, has done a marvellous job introducing CoRT Thinking to over 100 schools with excellent results. In Italy Giuseppe Tidona has carried out tests showing very significant improvements in students who were taught thinking explicitly. It is sad that introducing such basic and simple things into education is such a very slow process and depends on highly motivated people like Graeme Allan and Giuseppe Tidona. Youngsters love thinking.
