MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 24th September 2001

..a new punctuation mark..

There is a very much needed new punctuation mark which I have designed. At this moment I am not quite sure how to introduce it. You may recall that my 'peace' hand sign was intoduced by Shane Gould at the Sydney Olympics to 3.5 billion people in the television audience. Such opportunities are rather rare. Maybe I should just introduce it on the website and encourage visitors to spread the use of this new addition to punctuation. There is a real need for it. I suppose there are the usual people who believe our exisitng punctuation is perfect and cannot be improved upon. I am always getting into trouble with just such people - who seem to run the press!
