MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 25th March 2002

Launceston Reign

My Launceston reign was very well organised. I talked to youngsters at school. I talked to university students (entrepreneur course). I spoke to a combined session of ecology groups and loggers. I talked to wine producers etc etc. There was full support from the council, from the community and from the media. The initial step had come from Rod Scott, editor of the Examiner, then through Bob Campbell and Tony Botsman. The young and charming mayor, Janue Dickenson, entered the spirit of the occasion with great energy.

The modern king rules by suggested initiative not by law. The modern king seeks to provide the pomp and theatre that politics is not allowed to provide.

The focus was on the parallel thinking of the Six Hats because this is a framework that is easily understood and which can be taken up and used in meetings, committees etc thereafter. In this way there would be a tangible residue of the 'king's week'.

The king's week was also a 'Thinking Week' and it could make sense for every community to designate one week a year as a 'Thinking Week' when people got together to think about things, to generate new ideas and to design ways forward (in conflict areas).
