MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 17th November 2003

New Words

There is a huge need for new words in a language. But new words are difficult to insert. New words do arise when there is an obvious need. But such needs are not the most important. There is a greater need for new words that will then allow us to see existing things in a new way or a new combination.

The old words get in the way and pull perception along the established path. Imagine a word that signalled the following: "If I accept your starting point and your values I would agree with you. There is nothing wrong with your logic but your starting perceptions are particular." That is quite a mouthful but one simple word could convey all that.
