There needs to be more opportunities for people to show off. If the basis is valid then there is nothing wrong with showing off. It is only when there is a mis-match between showing and the substance that the process becomes disagreeable. A talented trapeze performer in a circus is showing off and deserves the applause he or she gets.
We need to design opportunities for achievement and then to applaud achievement. In a survey ninety-four per cent of youngsters said they valued achievement more than anything else. There is sport, but what other avenues of achievement?
