MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 13th December 2004 Plug Hole I once stated that bath water in the Southern Hemisphere spiralled down the plug hole in a different way from the water in a Northern Hemisphere bath. A Canadian journalist said that this was absurd and that all the experts she had asked confirmed the absurdity. But the Chief Scientist of Australia confirmed that it was indeed so. I do not suppose that this matter is very important but it does illustrate how vehemently people can hold wrong opinions (myself not excluded). The history of science is full of classic examples of this.
