MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 16th October 2006 Phone Number Newspaper
Imagine a newspaper that just listed some phone numbers. Phone this number for the latest Middle East situation. Phone this number for advice on how to improve your sex life. Phone this number for the latest scandals etc. These could be free or pay lines. The whole newspaper could be just these numbers or they could be in addition to the usual stuff (phone for more details etc). Where would advertising come in? In the same way as it does on the radio or the net - or not at all.
The major defect of the idea is that we would not then be 'hit' by information we would never have looked for. This may, indeed, be the major value of a newspaper.
