MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 22nd February 2010

a remarkably stupid piece

There was recently broadcast and published as a blog a remarkably stupid piece by Lucy Kelaway. She classifies my book "Think before it is too late" as a bad business book. That is equivalent to treating champagne as bad orange juice. It is true that in my experience business has been more interested in thinking than any other sector of society. This is because there is a reality test in the bottom line whereas in most sectors of society you can argue yourself forward. But daffodil growers are also interested in thinking. This does not mean that my books are about daffodil growing. If Lucy Kellaway had done more than just read the contents page she might have formed a wiser judgement.

Her position as a journalist for the Financial Times should require rather better thinking than this. You may want to write to the editor of the Financial Times to make this point.
