CRITICAL/CONSTRUCTIVE THINKING

A provocative thinking/writing programme for school children

For schools and families - Two student books and teaching guides for each grade 6 - 9 provide a carefully designed, hour-per-week instructional programme in thinking and writing. This programme is designed to complement literature-based curriculums which teach writing as a process. Students master eighteen valuable thinking tools and use the tools to tackle a wide variety of thinking and writing tasks.

Here's how Think, Note, Write works:

  1. First, students learn one of the eighteen thinking tools. Each tool is described with help from a graphic outline.
  2. Next, students apply the tool to a given task, noting all of their thinking inside the graphic as they work.
  3. After sharing their thoughts in groups, students use one of several mini-outlines to organise their notes.
  4. With a specific audience and purpose in mind, the students write a draft of their thoughts. Peers evaluate drafts with the help of review questions.
  5. Finally, students select drafts to polish and save in a portfolio at the back of each Think, Note, Write book.

What you can get:

THINK, NOTE, WRITE Thinking Tools Reproducibles: This handy booklet gives you a reproducible copy of each of the eighteen thinking tools presented in the Think, Note, Write series. Final page pictures and summarises all of the thinking tools. A valuable resource for completing activities suggested in the Think, Note, Write teacher guides or for independent writing assignments.

THINK, NOTE, WRITE Teacher Guides: Teacher guides contain instructional suggestions, sample responses, plus a philosophy of the series. A bonus section integrates the thinking tools with literature by offering thinking and writing tasks for commonly taught fiction and non-fiction.

THINK, NOTE, WRITE Posters: Each thinking tool is pictured, along with a concise summary of the tool's use. Excellent for introducing and/or reinforcing the Think, Note, Write concepts.
