MESSAGE FOR WEEK BEGINNING 14th March 2005 SIX VALUE MEDALS
My latest book, SIX VALUE MEDALS, was published last week (Vermillion Press, London). This is a framework for looking at values.
As everyone knows values are hugely important. At the same time they are general and rather vague.
There is even more "lip service" paid to values than to creativity. Everyone claims to keep all values firmly in mind (for instance ecology values) but strategies rarely show this concern for values.
The SIX THINKING HATS framework which I designed many years ago as an alternative to argument, is now widely used around the world. The framework is in use with four year olds in Singapore, Buenos Aires and many other countries. The framework is also in use at the top economics meetings in Washington - so I was told by a Nobel prize economist. The effects can be very powerful both in saving time and in getting constructive thinking (rather than argumentative thinking) from all present. One company in Finland used to spend thirty days on their multi-national project discussions. Using the parallel thinking of the Hats they now do it in two days.
Training in the use of the Hats has been available for some time. Training in the use of the Medals will start soon. From time to time I shall write about the Medals in my messages.
